Kinetic Apple No. 1

Projector, 40x30cm screen, looping 2D animation, haptic device consist of 208 pins and Arduino. Displayed at the Tacky Fondue collective exhibition, Saltspace Gallery, 2023.

This work utilised an expanded haptic screen device with dimensions of 40 x 30 cm, incorporating 208 moving pins controlled by 16 servo motors. The pins, positioned at the centre of the device, created fluctuating, wavy motions that invited tactile interaction. The surface was designed with additional flat areas to accommodate projected 2D animation in a 4:3 aspect ratio. While natural light in the gallery limited the animation’s visibility, the mechanical motion of the pins, driven by Arduino-controlled motors, remained the focal point. Mounted on a 76 cm plinth, the device demonstrated the integration of tactile feedback, mechanical sound, and visual projection within an expanded animation framework.
